Despite having a bachelor’s degree in Human Relations, I found that this training was very informative. I gained additional knowledge from it and learned new aspects about the field that I never knew before. One improvement that I would like to see be made is a system upgrade with the training website. There were times that I sometimes struggled with the training website. For example, when I had to submit my referees contact information in order to have them receive a form that they had to complete, I ran into some technical issues. It took some time for these issues to be resolved, which led to increased delays and postponements with my training. Nonetheless, I was very pleased that the team members at C.L.S., that I was in touch with, were very supportive of me and my journey! Despite having to sometimes wait a lengthy amount of time to receive an email response back, the team at C.L.S. were always very understanding! Overall, this experience allowed me to enhance the skills that I have already learned, while also encouraging me to develop new skills in the process. I am eager to put these skills to good use and benefit from this experience as a way to start building on my future career in this field of work.

In my experience, I’ve found that open dialogue and sharing personal stories can break down barriers and reduce stigma surrounding addiction. By sharing experiences of overcoming challenges or seeking help, individuals can inspire others to take proactive steps towards recovery. Furthermore, sharing insights gained from education and training, such as those from the “Fundamentals of Addiction” course, can empower community members to recognize signs of addiction, support loved ones in need, and advocate for better resources and treatment options. Overall, community sharing creates a supportive environment where individuals feel validated, understood, and encouraged to seek help when needed. It’s through this collective effort that we can truly make a difference in addressing addiction and mental health challenges within our communities.

The training was detailed but does not do a very good job at catering to multiple scenarios. Neither does it really identify what we really need to do as Listeners. Yes I under to listen not offer any help, But no clear instructions on what to do in case of emergency. I’m supposed to refer the chatter to 911 knowing they likely won’t oblige if they are in crisis. It does not make any significant use of psychology lots of the techniques shown are not even in the use of a chat platform.

CLS did a great job creating a training for volunteers to prepare them. I am looking forward to apply my skills and help people in need.
